Women and Marijuana

Marijuana in itself is good since it is a medicinal plant.  Men and women have been using it for hundreds of years. Aside from the hemp, seed, and seed oils, it has its medicinal benefits.  Addiction to it, like any addiction for that matter, is however not good, neither for men nor for women. It affects, among others, the brain, memory, learning, and attention. In case of women, it affects their fertility, their pregnancy, and their baby.

The main ingredients in marijuana

THC (or delta-9-tetrahydrocannibol), one of its two main active ingredients is useful for treating pain, among others.  The other one,  CBD (Cannabidiol), may even inhibit the growth of cancer cells. As soon as you take marijuana, you immediately experience its physical effects.  These include increased heart rate, increased rate of breathing, and increase in blood pressure, etc.  These effects are reduced over time but you can be impaired even for weeks since the substance can stay in your system even for a month.  So you can just imagine in the case of prolonged used or drug addiction to marijuana.

Effect on fertility

Regular use of marijuana can disrupt the monthly menstrual cycle of a woman and can inhibit ovulation.  There is a part of the brain which controls the release of hormones, which in effect controls the menstrual cycle.  Regular use of the substance can depress the level of hormones. Thus, irregularity in the menstrual cycle can occur.

Effect on pregnancy

When a woman smokes marijuana, the substance is passed on to the fetus via the placenta.  Complications can thus occur since the nutrients passed on to the fetus are already mixed with the amount of the substance that it is inhaled by the woman.  The supply of oxygen to the fetus is disrupted as well as the woman smokes the marijuana.  Thus the fetus may be underdeveloped in terms of size and weight.  Regular marijuana smoking marijuana can even lead to premature birth.  And the baby as a consequence can be undersized and underweight.

Effect on baby

Over the years, there have been evidences that babies born by marijuana users have some defects.  Some are undersized and underweight. Others have breathing problems.  Still others have poorer memory. There is a long list of abnormalities that can occur. If you want a baby or you are already pregnant, it might be good to stop taking marijuana now.  It will be also good to consult your doctor and tell him your history in the use of the drug so he can help you. You may also opt to get rehab treatment.  Addiction drug rehab treatment can certainly brighten your future and your child.

Are you or someone close to you in need of drug or alcohol treatment? If you live in South Florida, you need to know that you can get the help you need to give up your addiction and get your normal life back. You can find some very good Free Drug Addiction Treatment Centers in South Florida, which means you will not only get the treatment you need, but you also will not need to worry about costs.

There are more types of treatments and facilities, but some people need to use the residential drug treatment program in order to successfully get treated. In such a program, the people getting treatment are provided with around-the-clock professional care, in a supportive environment. Some of the addicted people need to follow this program in order to complete the addiction recovery. But even the residential program can be of two types: long term or short term. The type depends for each individual, depending on the person’s needs, on the length of addiction and sometimes the drug used. In some cases, the short-term program is enough, but there are specific cases in which the long-term is needed for the best results.

In a residential program, the patient is provided amenities such as scenic views, gourmet meals, yoga classes and art classes. Although it might seem far from what medical facilities provide, all these amenities are part of the treatment needed for drug and alcohol abuse. Of course, Drug and Alcohol Medication are also provided in the residential treatment program, but the person attending it will also get counseling sessions, family therapy sessions, and support group meetings.

The program is successful because the person is outlined a number of rules to follow. At the beginning, the rules are more severe, but as the time passes, they tend to get more relaxed. But they are important, as they are designed to reduce the risk of relapse. Although the rules are strict, the program is mainly flexible, so that it can fit the needs of each patient, depending on some factors.
